In 2000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Bowling Green, Ohio was home to 29,636 people. If you've been here lately, you know that figure has grown significantly ! Here (in no particular order) are some of the many reasons why each year, more people and businesses decide to make BG "home".
A Historic yet Vibrant Downtown
The crossroad of Main and Wooster Streets (known locally as the "Four Corners") marks the center of town. Main Street, lined on both sides by numerous business, entertainment and residential properties, is within one block (either west or east) of the primary City and County Government buildings. Besides being a fun place to spend a day or night shopping and enjoying some great food and entertainment, downtown BG plays host to numerous cultural and community events throughout the year. Check out Main Street Bowling Green for more details.
Great Public and Private Schools - From Preschool through Bowling Green State University
Since its establishment in the early 1800's, the community of Bowling Green has placed special emphasis on the education of all its citizens, both young and adult. As the city grew and thrived over the years, its residents continued to make the investments necessary to build the best schools staffed by the highest quality educators possible. This is the primary reason that by 1910, the institution known internationally as Bowling Green State University was founded. With the recent decision by its citizens to build a new, state of the art Junior High School and Auditorium, as well as the significant expansion of BGSU's campus facilities and student enrollment currently underway, Bowling Green's legacy as a center for educational excellence continues.
Comprised of 5 Elementary Schools, 1 Preschool , seperate Junior and Senior High Schools, BG Area Schools currently serves students from a local area of more than 250 square miles. It also has one of the highest graduation rates in the state.
BG houses a number of fine private elementary and secondary schools such as St. Aloysius Catholic Elementary and Junior High School, the Bowling Green Christian Acadamy, and the Montessori School of Bowling Green. Additionally, at least 9 independently operated preschools are listed in the latest Yellow Pages.
BGSU, on Wooster Street bounded by I-75 on the east and located several blocks from downtown, offers an ever-expanding range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. Aside from its outstanding academic reputation, it offers community residents and students alike some of the finest cultural, recreational and athletic opportunities to be found in norhtwest Ohio. Our community truly values the richness and diversity its staff and students bring here, and is proud the University makes Bowling Green its home.
